Learn it. Love it. Live it.
An IBurts initiate to help all South Africa’s learn the National Anthem – no we are not stupid, but after 15 years most people still sing it wrong or don’t know the words to the somg.
Most countries pride themselves in knowing that each citizen knows the anthem and can sing it. Not the case in South Africa! We sang “Die Stem” for so many years and in 1994 when south Africa changed to a new government so did the National Anthem to Nkosi Sikeleli iAfrica.
For most young South Africans is was easy to adapt to the new song as schools learned it and sang it at each assembly, but for the older generation it was a little difficult to adapt to the 5 different languages used in one song!
So now in 2009 - after 15 YEARS of the Nkosi Sikeleli iAfrica we finally get a website www.myanthem.co.za to teach us the history, meaning and words of the song.
I went on to investigate, interactive website where you can learn the history and meaning (5 Different languages used and the meaning of each verse) of our national anthem, you can download the song and enter competitions. FANTASTIC.
So here is the full translation of our national anthem – BEAUTIFUL!
Proudly South African
